About the port

The port is run by Salalah Port Services, with the container terminal operated by APM Terminals. Its main business is transhipment: large container ships on Asia–Europe, Middle East and East Africa routes exchange boxes here without entering the Gulf. An expansion completed in 2025 raised the container terminal's capacity to about 6.5 million TEU a year, according to APM Terminals.

A separate general-cargo terminal handles bulk and break-bulk cargo — Dhofar is a major exporter of gypsum and limestone — and the port receives cruise-ship calls, mainly in the cooler months. The Salalah Free Zone lies next to the port.
