About this map
OmanMap.org puts the places most visitors and students look for — cities, governorates, ports, airports, forts, wadis, beaches, dive sites and hikes — on one consistent map, with short notes on each. Opening hours, fees and access rules in Oman change often, so we keep notes general and recommend checking locally before you go.
The maps are free to embed on any site with a single line of HTML. Base map tiles are © OpenStreetMap contributors, maps are drawn with Leaflet, and the places dataset is open at /data/places.json.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Oman?
In the Middle East, on the south-eastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Yemen and has coasts on the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz. See where is Oman.
How many governorates does Oman have?
Eleven governorates, divided into 63 wilayats. See the governorates of Oman.
What are the main ports of Oman?
Sohar on the Gulf of Oman, and Salalah and Duqm on the Arabian Sea. Muscat's Port Sultan Qaboos is now a cruise port. See ports of Oman.
When is the best time to visit Oman?
November to March for most of the country. Salalah and Dhofar are the exception: the khareef monsoon from about late June to early September is their high season.
Do I need a 4×4 in Oman?
Not for cities and main highways. You do need one for Jebel Akhdar (police checkpoint), the upper Jebel Shams road, the Wahiba Sands and most of the routes on our 4×4 page.
